Roast potatoes are a must-have
Yes, roast potatoes definitely have to be on the roast menu. Whether itโs your Sunday roast, Christmas or Easter celebration, or simply gathering with your loved ones.
No roasties will be complete without potatoes.
Ideally, you cook these golden gems in an oven. However, not every one of us has a big enough oven that can take all the roasting tins apart from the mains such as roast lamb, chicken, beef, etc.
So, if you have an air fryer lying on your kitchen worktop, cooking the roast potatoes in an air fryer is the best solution.
Because you can do it in half an hour. And it doesnโt take much effort to do.
Air fryer roast potatoes are a bliss
So using an air fryer to roast your spuds is simply a godsend solution.
While your oven is busy cooking the mains, you can throw your potatoes in your air fryer literally toward the end of your cooking preparation. Because it only takes 30 minutes to cook.

A little spice to enhance the flavor
We all know that spices have become more and more popular among every type of food all over the globe.
Simply because spices are a delicious addition to our cooking to enhance the flavor.
So I do the same for my roasties too.
I sprinkle a little garam masala and paprika powder over my potatoes apart from the usual black pepper and salt.
The difference it makes is amazing. My roast potatoes taste way better.
How to roast potatoes in an air fryer
As mentioned above, it is simple and easy to roast potatoes in an air fryer.
All you have to do is prepare your spuds, meaning cut them in the same size. Soak them in plenty of water for at least half an hour.
When youโre ready to cook, drain the potatoes, then sprinkle the spices and salt over them. Drizzle a little olive oil and toss them well until all the pieces are covered with spices and oil.
Cook the potatoes in the preheated air fryer at a temperature of 180ยฐC/ 355ยฐF for 25-30 minutes.
Do check and flip the potatoes every now and again. I did it twice throughout the cooking time.
Top tips to successfully roast potatoes in the air fryer
- Choose the right type of potatoes. Maris Piper, Russet, or King Edward are good choices.
- Try your best to cut the potatoes in a similar size. So they will be cooked evenly. I always aim to cut in a 1.5-inch size.
- Donโt skip soaking the potatoes in the water. Because this helps water retention in the spuds so they donโt go dry too quickly while roasting.
- Every air fryer has different heat distribution. Some are hotter than others. So, do keep an eye on your potatoes. Make sure you toss them around properly so every piece will be cooked fully.
- If 30 minutes is not long enough to cook the potatoes, it means your air fryer doesnโt distribute the heat like other brands. There is also a chance that your potatoes are cut in a bigger size so naturally, it takes longer to cook them. Or, some pieces are bigger than others causing uneven cooking.
