This apple and kale smoothie tastes refreshing. With a delicious sweetness from the coconut and honey, it’s the one drink that makes you get rehydrated at the same time and replenish your body with goodness.
Apple Kale Smoothie
I used to think kale belonged strictly in a salad bowl, but this apple and kale blend completely changed my mind. The crispness of the apple perfectly balances the greens, and with the honey and coconut water, it actually tastes like a treat rather than a health project. It’s now become my favorite way to consume some greens without having to munch on a big bowl of salad.
Also, I love how hydrating this drink feels. Between the coconut water and the fresh fruit, it’s like a massive glass of cold water with a serious nutrient upgrade. It’s light enough that you don’t feel weighed down, but satisfying enough to keep you going until your next meal.
If you’ve been hesitant about green smoothies, this is the one to try. It’s simple, sweet, and honestly just makes you feel like you’ve done something really good for your body. Well, at least for me.
Quench Thirst and Replenish Your Nutrients
This apple and kale smoothie tastes refreshing with a delicious sweetness from the coconut and honey. It’s the one drink that keeps you rehydrated and replenishes your body with goodness.
In my household, this smoothie has become a favorite because it provides 2 of the 5 portions we have to keep up with. Because it’s in the form of a drink, it’s so easy and doesn’t take much time to consume the two greens we need: green apple and green curly kale.

And as the weather improves due to the changing season, we’re surely looking into having this green drink more often on summer days.
I like having the smoothie for a summer barbecue with our loved ones. And if you want another green smoothie idea, try my cucumber-apple smoothie.
Why You’ll Love This Smoothie
- Cost-effective: You only need simple, easy ingredients you can get at any grocery store at a reasonable price. Because all items are everyday food items.
Beneficial Ingredients
To make you even more excited, let me remind you of the goodness of this apple and kale smoothie for your overall health.
It uses ingredients that are beneficial for our health. They are Granny Smith apples, curly green kale, coconut water, and clear honey. These four items are such power foods for us.

As we know, apples are good for our hearts and may help prevent cancer, diabetes, stroke, etc.
Kale is renowned for its benefits, including supporting our immune system, bone health, eye health, and protection against cancer and heart disease.
Coconut water helps reduce the risk of stroke, supports good digestion and healthy skin, etc.
Last but not least, honey. It’s packed with benefits, including antioxidants that help lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and support heart health.
What Fruit Is Good With Kale?
My main reason for making this smoothie is to eat more kale, because this green leafy veggie is so good for us that I love having it in more ways than just enjoying it in my pasta with green kale and broccoli, or in any savory dish, all the time.
And I find that, because the kale leaf tastes rather bitter, it is good to pair with other ingredients that have a bit more flavor and sweetness.
I find all types of apples are good, as are pears, pineapples, and berries.

Pro Tips for the Best-Tasting Apple and Kale Smoothie
- Prevent the Brown Hue: To keep your smoothie looking vibrant green instead of murky, add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant, preventing the apple from oxidizing (browning) as soon as it’s blended.
- Keep the Skin On: Don’t peel your apples! Most of the fiber and those “good-for-you” nutrients are in the skin. A high-powered blender will pulverize it completely, adding texture and health benefits without any extra effort.
- The “Ice-Cold” Factor: Apples and kale both taste significantly better when they are chilled. If your ingredients are at room temperature, add a handful of ice or a frozen apple (dice it up and freeze it the night before) to keep the drink crisp.
- Massage Your Kale: If you aren’t using a high-speed blender, quickly “massage” the fresh kale leaves with your hands for 30 seconds before tossing them in. It sounds extra, but it breaks down tough fibers so you don’t end up with chewy bits.
- Best-quality ingredients: Use best-quality produce. So, perhaps you choose organic apples, kale, honey, and coconut water.
- Enjoy the smoothie right away: Consume the smoothie within an hour of making it. This can give the most refreshing taste before oxidation begins in the apple.
Ingredient Alternatives and Substitute
- Apple: You can substitute with a pear that gives similar sweetness with a slightly grainier, silkier texture, or green grapes that give more hydration and sweetness.
- Honey: Add maple syrup instead for a deeper and autumnal flavor that marries well with apple. Or, you can use agave nectar if you prefer a mild sweetness.
- Coconut water: Use mineral water or sparkling water if you like. And if you want to double down on the flavor and benefit of apple, you can always add unsweetened apple juice. Or add the cold ginger tea for a spicy kick.
- Flavor booster: If you want a more flavorful apple-and-kale smoothie, add a pinch of cinnamon powder to give a warm, spicy feel. You can also add a pinch of Celtic salt or another health salt to boost hydration in your smoothie.

Apple And Kale Smoothie Recipe
Equipment
- High speed blender.
Ingredients
- 1 green apple I use granny smith.
- A handful of kale leaves.
- 1 cup coconut water.
- 1 teaspoon clear honey optional.
Instructions
- Wash and core the apple and cut it in chunks.
- Wash and rinse the kale leaves.
- Place the apple chunks, kale leaves, coconut water and honey (if using) in a blender.
- Blitz it for a minute or two until everything is blended and smooth.
Notes
- You can use different types of apple that you like or have.
- If your apple tastes rather sweet, you may want to skip the honey altogether as the coconut water is a little bit sweet too. So it’s probably best to add honey at the last minute after you check the blended smoothie first.
